The Spanish term “De Colores” translates as “of colors” or “all in colors”. Essentially, we use this term to describe the “many colors of God’s love”, which is also the main point of the Spanish song of the same name.

The popularity of the song originated from a group of people in Spain who were riding on a bus on the way back from a spiritual retreat weekend. The bus broke down, which forced these people to have to walk 20 miles to the nearest town. While on this long walk, they sang to pass the time. De Colores was a popular Spanish folk song, and they sang it over and over again as they went along. There are over 100 verses that are now known to exist today.

This verse is part of the main story that is the basis of the Walk to Emmaus. In this story, Luke talks about how Jesus appeared to two disciples and walked with them on the way from Jerusalem to Emmaus.

You can read the entire story for yourself, found at:
Luke 24:13-35.

Here is a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) regarding the Fox Valley Walk to Emmaus.

Q: What does "FVWTE" stand for?

A: FVWTE is an acronym for Fox Valley Walk to Emmaus.  Now, isn't FVWTE easier to type? :)

Q: If I have never been on a Walk to Emmaus retreat before, how can I learn more?

A: Click on "Pilgrim Central" either on the Main Menu on the left side of your screen, or on the menu across the top of this page to learn more.

Q: What is the benefit to registering and logging on to this website?

A: The main benefit for you is that it will allow you to be able to see parts of the website that are not available to an unregistered "Guest".  It also lets us know who is all accessing the website, so we can better communicate with you.

Q: What is a "Gathering"?

A: This is a term that we use for our monthly "get-togethers" in which members of our community come from all over Wisconsin so that we can get to know each other more (fellowship), worship together, and talk about how our lives are going since we returned from the Walk to Emmaus.  These gatherings are not however limited only to people who have already attended a Walk to Emmaus retreat.  If you would like to simply meet some people and learn what the Walk to Emmaus is all about, you are more than welcome to join us!  The date and location of the next gathering will usually be advertised on the front page of our website here.

Q:  I've heard mention of pages on this website that I cannot find... Is there a fast way to find things?

A:  There is a "Search" area at the bottom of every page.  That search tool will look through everything on this site to help you find what you are looking for by pointing out where the key words from your search are found.

Q:  OK, so I did a search, and for some reason I cannot access the page I am looking for.  Why is that?

A: Some of the pages on this website are restricted to certain groups of people.  For example, only members of our Steering Committee have access to the "Board of Directors Central" page, because some information there is not meant to be viewed by the general public.  If you are logged in and do not have access to a page that you think you should be able to see, send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and I will update your access rights accordingly.

Q:  I am looking for a Reunion Group now that I have completed my pilgrim walk.  How would I go about finding one?

A:  The first person you should talk to about this is your Sponsor.  They will likely be able to help you out with finding the right Reunion Group in your area.  If they cannot help, you can contact Ed Ramsaroop ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) from our Steering Committee.  He is currently in charge of Reunion Groups for our community.

Q: I have started a Reunion Group, and we have room for more people to join us.  How can we communicate this to the rest of the community?

A: For this, you can either contact Ed Ramsaroop at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , or me (Bill Kraemer - the website administrator) at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  Ed can help you out if he already knows some people in your area who are looking for a group to join, and I can advertise your reunion group on the website.

Q: Who "runs the show" for the Fox Valley Walk to Emmaus community?

A: There is no one person who does everything here.  For specific information on who to contact for each subject, click on the Contact Us section of the website.  You can find this under the Information Menu on the left side of our site.

Q: I just moved to Wisconsin, and I have previously attending a Walk to Emmaus or a similar type of retreat (i.e. Cursillo, Tres Dias, Koinonia, etc.).  Is it possible for me to join your Walk to Emmaus Community here in Wisconsin?

A: More than likely, the short answer to this question is "yes".  However, for more information, please contact our Community Lay Director, Nancy Hermanson, at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Q: I heard someone reference "Chrysalis", which I think has something to do with Walk to Emmaus... What is it?

A:  Chrysalis is the name for the youth and young adult versions of the Walk to Emmaus.  For more information on this, I would highly suggest you take a look at The Upper Room's Chrysalis website, which can be found here.

Q: I have heard that Cursillo is strictly for Catholics... What denomination do I have to be in order to attend a Walk to Emmaus?

A: This question is also answered on our Pilgrim Central page, but the short answer is that the Walk to Emmaus is ecumenical.  We are open to all Christian denominations, and encourage diversity in this whenever possible!
